Iraq Partners Reflect on USAID Decision
The recent announcement by U.S. President Trump to suspend foreign aid not only has severe direct and indirect consequences on beneficiaries and vulnerable communities all across the globe, but it also has a direct impact on the livelihoods of many American and non-American employees working towards a better world, says our long-standing partner Iraqi Al-Amal Association.
In this public letter, the Al-Amal Association describes the devastating consequences of the decision to suspend USAID activities. It has a direct impact on shrinking civic space, which is a worrying trend we are seeing in many parts of the world, including in the MENA region. We sincerely hope that President Trump re-considers his decision, and other like-minded governments and donors can fill in the gaps before all the hard work ends up in vain.
