Hawija as told by residents (with the Mayor of Hawija) – PAX PoC Conference 2021

On December 1-3, 2021, PAX brought together PoC partners to discuss three key themes: international support to local security actors, accountability for military missions, and PoC champions in the future of warfare.

On day 2 (theme: Accountability for military missions), Sabhan Khalaf Ali (Mayor of Hawija, Iraq) and Tofan Abdulwahhab Awad (General Director at Al-Ghad League for Woman and Child Care) engaged in an interactive discussion on the Dutch-led bombing raid on the Iraqi town Hawija and the (lack of) response and compensation to harmed civilians by the Dutch government and other involved actors.

Opening: Wilbert van der Zeijden (Team Coordinator Protection of Civilians at PAX), moderator: Saba Azeem (Project Lead Human Security Survey Iraq at PAX).
